Hey, I’m Heron!

They/Them

As a Certified Full Spectrum Birth + Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, and Early Parenthood Educator, I would be honored to support you through your unique family building journey.

A little bit about me

My wife and I live in what is now known as Ferndale, WA (unceded Lummi lands) with our wonderful young adult child and 3 cats. I love coffee, gardening, knitting, and climbing trees; pondering creative solutions in parenting and communal care; envisioning a safer + more joyful world, and talking about birth and babies, toddler emotions and the nervous system, and all things queer.

My offerings include Full-Spectrum Doula Support and Education for Labor + Birth, Postpartum, and Early Parenthood.

I envision a world where people are safe in all spaces, supported in their dreams, celebrated in their bodies, and encouraged to be exactly who they are and who they want to be.

My Approach

As I work with each family, I focus on expansive education for pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum + early parenthood, and infant, toddler and family sleep. I bring in curious, creative, steady, and affirming energy to birth with the goal of uplifting individuals, families and communities in their joy and their learning, while walking alongside them through any challenges and barriers they may be facing in their journey.

I use my knowledge of birth anatomy + physiology, fetal positioning, and labor patterns; the nervous system and mental health; supportive movement, body tension, and fascial release; massage, counterpressure, and body positioning; newborn care, sleep, and feeding: and provider care + communication, family support, and birth location to help inform how I support you.

To put it simply, there is no one-size-fits-all plan when it comes to family building, growing a baby, giving birth, and caring for your newborn or child. Each family deserves tailored education, advocacy, and support that is co-created with their input and expertise, and that goes beyond standard care and arrives at autonomous, empowered, and informed collaboration.

Because of this, I work from a Trauma-Informed, Physiology + Nervous-System Aware, Health-At-Every-Size, Body Positive, Gender Expansive, and Decolonization + Transformative Justice lens. I know, it’s a mouthful. And I am SO passionate about this work that I am okay looking a bit silly so that I can communicate honestly and openly. I center Evidence-Based Education, Advocacy, and Support specific to my clients needs + wishes, and can connect families to other providers within our local web of professionals.

I believe that birthing parents are the best people to make informed decisions for themselves and their family. Feelings of safety and satisfaction during and after birth, through postpartum, and into parenthood will be higher, if we collectively meet the needs of birth families. And this must include an environment of true informed decision-making that respects the expertise that each birthing person holds about themselves and their lived experiences! I am always learning from each family that I work with, each birth that I witness, and the broader perinatal community.
